According to public information, the total investment in the 1.2 million tons/year ethylene plant project is approximately 28.6 billion yuan. In the first quarter of 2026, it has entered the stage of detailed design completion and long-term equipment ordering peak. The overall plan is to complete the machinery in the third quarter of 2027. In addition, the 300,000 tons/year ethylene capacity expansion and transformation project has entered the sprint period for mechanical completion and is planned to be fully operational by the end of October 2026.

Gansu also plans to promote projects such as Juhua silicon fluorine new materials, silver clean and efficient gasification gas phase II, demonstration of coal quality and grading utilization in Longdong and Lanzhou New District, deep processing of 500,000 tons/young hydrocarbons in Longdong, integration of green electricity, hydrogen, ammonia and alcohol, carbon-based composite materials in Lanzhou New District, and 100,000 tons of biomass green methanol. It is also planning projects such as coal-to-syngas and coal-to-urea. These projects form an important support for the transformation and upgrading of Gansu’s new chemical materials industry.

Valve Demand Research & Judgment

From the design, construction to commissioning and operation of coal chemical projects, valve demand runs through the entire process, and the demand characteristics at different stages are different.

Coal gasification equipment is an area with the most concentrated demand for valves and the most demanding working conditions. The oxygen control valve supporting the gasifier must meet the IGC 13/20 specification. The valve body cavity must be smooth and burr-free, and have a fire-proof and anti-static design. The coal slurry/pulverized coal conveying system must have a two-way hard-sealed fixed ball valve, and the valve internals must be hardened by nitriding or surfacing Stellite alloy. For valves involving high-temperature and high-pressure solid-containing media, such as slag lock valves and pulverized coal feed valves, the valve internals usually need to be sprayed with tungsten carbide, which has extremely high requirements for wear resistance and reliability.

Air separation and syngas purification plants have special requirements for cryogenic valves and oxygen valves. Low-temperature valves require lengthening of the valve stem, and the material is mainly 316; oxygen vent valves need to be made of special alloys such as Inconel625 or Monel500 due to large pressure differences and fast movements. Oil synthesis and processing equipment involves high-pressure hydrogenation and hydrogen-prone working conditions. The pressure level can reach CL2500 (PN42.0MPa). The medium contains hydrogen sulfide and gas-liquid-solid three-phase. The valves under severe working conditions require extremely high design and manufacturing capabilities. In the 2024 Shenhua Coal-to-Liquids Company’s bidding, only 202 high-pressure hydrogenation valves were purchased in two bidding sections, including gate valves, Y-type strainer, floating ball valves and other types. This case clearly shows that the valve procurement for coal-to-liquids projects is not only large in quantity, but also complex in categories and with high technical requirements.

Green electricity hydrogen ammonia alcohol coupling device is the new demand direction. The electrolyzed water hydrogen production system requires high-cleanliness ball valves and explosion-proof control valves; CO₂ capture and transportation involve supercritical working conditions, requiring special high-pressure ball valves and ultra-high sealing grade valves. Dry coke quenching and coal tar deep processing correspond to the needs of wear-resistant gate valves, lock bucket valves, and ash discharge valves.
