The main difference from a standard NRS (Non Rising Stem) gate valve is that the stem and stem nut are placed outside the valve body. This makes it easy to see if the valve is open or closed, as almost the entire length of the stem is visible when the valve is open, while the stem is no longer visible when the valve is closed.
