Differences and commonalities between gate valves, ball valves, and butterfly valves

The difference between gate valve, ball valve and butterfly valve:

1. Gate valve

There is a flat plate in the valve body which is perpendicular to the flow direction of the medium, and the flat plate is lifted and lowered to realize opening and closing.

Features: good airtightness, small fluid resistance, small opening and closing force, wide range of uses, and certain flow regulation performance, generally suitable for large-diameter pipelines.

2. Ball valve

A ball with a hole in the middle is used as the valve core, and the opening and closing of the valve are controlled by rotating the ball.

Features: Compared with the gate valve, the structure is simpler, the volume is small, and the fluid resistance is small, which can replace the function of the gate valve.

3. Butterfly valve

The opening and closing part is a disc-shaped valve that rotates around a fixed axis in the valve body.

Features: Simple structure, small size, light weight, suitable for making larger diameter valves. Be used to transport water, air, gas and other media.

Common ground:

The valve plate of the butterfly valve and the valve core of the ball valve rotate around their axis; the valve plate of the gate valve moves up and down along the axis; the butterfly valve and the gate valve can adjust the flow through the opening degree; the ball valve is not convenient to do this.

1. The sealing surface of the ball valve is spherical.

2. The sealing surface of the butterfly valve is an annular cylindrical surface.

3. The sealing surface of the gate valve is flat.
